Project Summary:

GroundPoint Technologies, in collaboration with James W. Sewall Company and the University of Vermont completed delivery of high resolution Land Use and Land Cover data to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. The Land Cover data includes an unprecedented mapping of the watersheds’ impervious surfaces. Accuracy of over 94% for impervious surfaces was calculated based on two thousand check points. The project relied on eCognition software from Trimble to perform Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) fusing LiDAR and high resolution aerial imagery. New York City is using the data to support improvements in the water quality modeling and land use protection programs.
